Description

The City of Lévis proposes to develop a sustainable development action plan (SDAP) with the intention of implementing its sustainable development vision that was recently defined in the municipal governance plan. The process will include updating the environmental and socio-economic diagnosis, targeted sectorial consultations, public consultations and an action plan focusing on issues with sustainability objectives and indicators in order to ensure technical and administrative monitoring and the presentation of an annual report. Among the questions regarding sustainable development that the SDAP will address, please note issues concerning air, procurement, water, energy, green spaces, residual matter, health, soil and transportation.
The methodology used will be based on the Local Agenda 21 approach and more specifically the new guide published by Quebec’s Department of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Territorial Occupation on territorial planning and sustainable development (Planification territoriale et développement durable); this is a participatory approach that integrates sustainability principles proposed in Quebec legislation on sustainable development. Task groups will be created by field of expertise and all municipal departments involved in sustainable development will take part in the diagnosis and in developing the SDAP as well as in the implementation and monitoring processes. The SDAP will be integrated within the City’s other existing policies and plans and will become the driving force for the different municipal departments by offering an overall vision of measures to be taken during the coming years and by contributing to a better quality of life for the present and future residents.
