Description
Northern Sunrise County, in partnership with the Village of Nampa and the Woodland Cree First Nation, will build a LEED Silver water treatment plant to replace two outdated plants, allowing it to meet current and future water needs in the district’s communities. Current supplies to the communities are not reliable and cannot sustain the growing population; the main goal will be to deliver a safe and reliable drinking water supply now and in the future. At the same time, the new plant will operate with a reduced environmental footprint and will maximize the reuse of existing buildings and transmission lines. The energy efficiency measures proposed for the design—geothermal heat exchange, building automation systems, demand management, energy-efficient fixtures, and minimized travel for operators, among others—are expected to achieve a total reduction of 45 per cent in energy consumption, compared with an equivalent facility under the Model National Energy Code for Buildings. An additional goal of the project will be to promote environmental awareness and knowledge about water conservation and sustainable design within the communities. The plant is expected to meet LEED Silver certification guidelines.
