Description
This project will promote green building technologies throughout the Town’s municipal operations, as well as in the broader community. It will result in recommendations for building retrofit measures to reduce water and energy consumption in municipal facilities and adjacent buildings. Other energy consuming items - such as, street, park and traffic lighting - will be studied, as well as, advanced technology for electrical use of heat pumps. Proposed measures will be based on considerations, such as lifecycle costing, and a comparison of the Town’s current situation with other municipalities across North America in relation to energy reduction/savings and environmental impact. In the case of the pool recreation complex, measures will be considered to achieve a Leadership in Energy Efficient Design (LEED) certification for its retrofit. Overall project potential for reducing greenhouse gases (GHG) is 112 tonnes annually.
