Description

The Town of Marystown will conduct a detailed energy audit of municipal buildings, infrastructure and equipment. The town will also prepare an energy management plan that will identify energy saving opportunities and determine their accompanying costs, payback periods and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction potential. Following a request-for-proposals process, the town selected two consulting firms that will gather and review data from 24 municipal facilities. The information reviewed will include utility bills, building blueprints and maintenance agreements. The project will also entail an on-site analysis of each building’s HVAC, lighting, controls and envelope, as well as an analysis of the current sewage distribution system and water mains. Data collected will determine a Building Energy Performance Index (BEPI) for each facility’s energy consumption, normalized for climate and time period. The energy management plan will identify the most economically feasible energy-saving opportunities for buildings, water and wastewater systems and the municipal vehicle fleet. The final report will quantify the GHG and energy-reduction potential of each recommended initiative, as compared with the baseline measurements obtained through the energy audit. Total GHG reduction potential will be determined over the course of the study.
