Feasibility study on an electric truck in the City of Saint-Sauveur
Description
The feasibility study assessed the project’s environmental, social and economic impacts. The assessment looked at the environmental impacts mainly by analyzing the reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions expected through the use of Class 6 medium-duty electric trucks compared to a similar vehicle for the City’s current needs. To establish a baseline, Tetra Tech reviewed input data on the City’s existing fleet of maintenance vehicles, including annual fuel consumption, fleet age, power features and limitations.
The lifecycle analysis of the vehicles (build, operation, rehabilitation and life end) was also taken into consideration. A sampling plan was also developed to measure the long-term performance of the project.
Innovative aspects
· The City of Saint-Sauveur would be among the first purchasers of the Class 6 model produced by Lion (a regional company).
· The electrification of municipal maintenance vehicles is uncommon in the region.
Replicability
The implementation of an electric maintenance vehicle could inspire other rural municipalities in Quebec to pursue electrification.
