Description
The City of Pitt Meadows will develop two new plans following the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) methodology: a corporate energy and emissions sustainability plan and a community energy and emissions sustainability plan. The plans will provide guidance to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in corporate and community buildings and activities. The plans will link to and result in amendments to the City’s corporate strategic plan, liquid waste management plans and policies, regional transit plan, official community plan, agricultural plan and metro Vancouver's Zero waste plan.
The project team will use Hyla Environmental Services’ (HES) Energy and Emissions Reporting and Monitoring System™ (EEMRS™) as a forecasting and planning tool. They will identify “base year” levels of corporate and community energy consumption, energy costs and GHG emissions.
They will then analyze buildings and engineering assets to identify potential energy reduction initiatives, their capital costs and simple payback, and resulting reductions in GHG emissions. The city will hold public consultations to explore a sustainability vision for the city and obtain feedback on the draft energy reduction measures. The project team will then draft the community and corporate energy and emissions sustainability plan, which will be finalized following another public consultation process. The Plans will set sustainable targets for the community and corporate level, develop implementation and monitoring plans (Corporate & Community) to measure these targets and identify short, medium and long term initiatives.
The city has an existing Green Team that will ensure that all measures resulting from the corporate energy plan are integrated across all departments.
