Description

The Town of Gander is developing a new water treatment facility to assure water quality for the long term. The plant willuse the dissolved air flotation (DAF) system, which is effective in dealing with the significant amounts of organicscontained in Lake Gander, the town's water source. The organics, when mixed with chlorine and hydrated lime will resultin high levels of trihalomethanes (THMs). The levels exceed the Canadian Drinking Water Guideline maximum levels. The DAF treatment system is expected to reduce Gander's water colour level to fine TCU (true colour units) and theTHMs to less than 20 ppb, results that meet and exceed the guidelines.
