Description
La Corporation de conservation et mise en valeur du patrimoine environnemental de Rosemère (CCMVPER), a not-for-profit organization, will coordinate the development of a regional waste management program for the RCM Thérèse de Blainville. The objective is to broaden and modernize the collection of residential waste by increasing the number of collections streams and by introducing a uniform electronic tracking platform that will make it possible to analyse trends and costs by sector (residential, commercial, industrial, institutional or, more specifically, by individual client) and create a historical database for comparison purposes. Each collection container will be outfitted with a radio frequency identifier that transmits information to a central database, making it available to all stakeholders. The project aims to double the diversion rate to approximately 50 per cent. This would divert 31,000 tonnes of waste from landfill, resulting in a decrease in methane gas equivalent to 417 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2). Furthermore, there would be an estimated additional 25 per cent decrease in soil and water table contamination by leachate of heavy metals, BOD5 (biochemical oxygen demand over five days), chloroethene, trichlorethylene, benzene, etc.
