Description
This study will find practical and economic ways to convert regional waste into clean and renewable transportation fuelsto supply municipal fleets. All significant sources of waste will be considered, including bio-solids, organic solid waste, wood waste, and agricultural and food processing residues. Electricity, methane, ethanol, and hydrogen will beconsidered as potential transportation fuel substitutes for diesel, gasoline and propane. In addition, the study willevaluate the relative merits of four key waste-to-energy conversion pathways: biogas production, pyrolysis/gasification,ethanol fermentation and bio-hydrogen production. Technical, performance, and economic information will be assembledon each of the technologies considered and a life-cycle analysis will be performed to identify the optimal waste-to-energysolution(s).
