Description
The City of Sorel-Tracy will conduct a study to determine the most profitable initiatives aimed at improving the energy efficiency of 15 energy-wasting municipal buildings. The working committee will start by characterizing the 15 buildings according to a set of criteria including energy consumption, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, condition and efficiency of the heating and air conditioning systems and main physical components having an impact on energy consumption (e.g. roof and windows). Next, they will assess the potential costs and impact of various scenarios focusing either on changes to existing equipment or implementation of better performing technologies. That analysis will lead to an implementation plan prioritizing the most profitable initiatives, both economically and environmentally. These initiatives are expected to result in a 9% reduction in electricity consumption and a 19% reduction in the use of natural gas, for a total GHG emission reduction of 19%. The City hopes that this implementation plan will make it a leader in sustainability locally as well as provide the tools required to improve the energy efficiency of all municipal buildings.
