Description
The town is studying the costs associated with providing safe drinking water to ratepayers, with the goal of setting up anequitable, metered rate for water. The study will look at the state of the town's infrastructure and will identify sources ofinfiltration into the sanitary system, to alleviate high flows, particularly during storms. Currently, a significant amount ofstorm runoff enters the sanitary sewer system, reducing the efficacy of treatment and increasing operating costs.Inspecting foundation drains, sump pumps and maintenance hatches will be part of the study, since poor pipeconnections and leaks contribute to increased flow. A metering program will make ratepayers responsible for theirconsumption and create an accountability system for the municipality.
