Description
The grant will be used for a staff person to be the champion of climate change adaptation planning and implementation, working with all City departments, the County level of government and Aamjinanng First Nation. By adding staff capacity, the City will be able to fill the gap and assign staff to develop a Climate Change Adaptation Plan. The key factors that drove the decision to apply for the grant is to continue the work that the City has begun that are related to climate change adaptation including: the City of Sarnia Official Plan (2016); the City's Asset Management Planning (Dec 2015); a Community Sustainability Plan (2013); an Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan (2014) and updates to the Stormwater Management Guidelines (2017).The City expects to achieve, with the support of the climate change staff grant, the following tasks: establish a Steering Committee and a staff cross functional Adaptation Team; review and adopt new policies; and undertake the development of a Climate Change Adaptation Plan to guide decision making.
