Description

This is the first Canadian field test study of the Abydoz Root Zone system - a promising low cost, low energy sewage treatment system that appears to be suitable for many smaller situations. The system provides an enhanced level of treatment for wastewater by way of a subsurface flow wetland engineered as a combined primary/secondary treatment process. The lifecycle of the project involves the construction of three collection systems for the 23 residences of Country Path Road, followed by a plant development phase. There is little or no maintenance to be undertaken on the system once the plants are established, as harvesting or cutting of the plants is not required. Based on estimated costs, the system should prove to be one-third the cost of a conventional wastewater collection system per residence.
