Description
The Village of Memramcook will implement a municipal water system to improve water quality and reduce water consumption from private water wells by 12.5 per cent. The village currently has a single drinking water system that serves less than 25 per cent of the population and cannot supply sufficient water to extend the distribution system. At the same time, water quality in some wells does not meet the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality. The municipality has set up a system to protect the watershed and well water, and hopes to find other sources of drinking water to which the system would also be applied. With total water consumption per resident being 0.45 m3 per day, Memramcook is planning a public education program to reduce that level. This project is an integral part of the Village of Memramcook’s Sustainable Development Plan.
