Description

Ultra violet (UV) technology has the potential of becoming the disinfection choice for small water systems by increasing resource efficiency in a cost-effective manner and reducing life-cycle environmental impacts through the reduction of chemical usage. This comprehensive field test study will evaluate the performance of UV technology combined with chemical treatment in relation to the Village of Telkwa’s new water treatment plant, which is currently being constructed to produce water that exceeds the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality. The study will include the installation of an innovative UV system and the monitoring and evaluation of its performance for the treatment of Bulkley River water and reduced chemical use. Power Smart equipment will be evaluated as a method to reduce long-term energy costs.
