Description

This study is a holistic approach towards capturing energy-saving measures and “green” benefits from existing municipaloperations. It will also lay the groundwork for a systematic route to incorporating energy and green aspects in day-to-dayprocurement of building technologies. Phase 1 deliverables include a detailed building energy analysis report, including afeasibility assessment and a prioritized list of energy saving measures weighted for various “green” aspects. Theoutcome of Phase 2 is a procurement standard. Study findings will be merged with initiatives currently underway - agreenhouse gas (GHG) emission analysis by ICLEI Energy Services Inc. and an asset renewal strategy - to form apowerful three-pronged approach that could lead to an average reduction of 35 per cent or greater in energyconsumption, plus corresponding reductions of 31.7 tonnes of sulphur oxides (SOx), nine tonnes of nitrogen oxides(NOx) and 8,289 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e). A 20 per cent reduction in water use is also projected.
