Description
The City of Bouctouche, located on the eastern coast of New Brunswick, will develop a Green Plan to use as a management tool and framework for decision-making pertaining to municipal solid waste, water quality and conservation, ecological infrastructure protection, energy efficiency, GHG emissions reduction, public transportation, and environmentally sustainable commercial and residential development. Its conception and application will take place within a year and a half timeframe. Public participation will be promoted through public awareness campaigns that will include workshops, a website and community newspaper information distribution. The City will establish the Sustainable Initiatives Group (SIG) to coordinate Green Plan initiatives and assess the effectiveness of its implementation. Feasibility studies will be conducted on the implementation of a commercial recycling system in Bouctouche and on potential renewable energy sources in the City. Assessments will be conducted on the wind power potential of the region and on the biomass resources available within it. The wind assessment will involve the installation of a 60 metre wind monitoring tower, data collection over a twelve month period and analysis of collected data.
