Description
In a continuation of its work to establish leadership in environmental sustainability, the City of Saint John will retrofit the Canada Games Aquatic Centre (CGAC) for increased energy efficiency. The proposed project will create energy savings of 40.5 per cent over its previous three years average energy consumption through measures such as installation of fluorescent, LED, and solar daylight tube lighting with advanced control technologies; water-conserving and waterless plumbing fixtures; solar, air and water heating systems; comprehensive air-gap sealing and interior partitioning; and high-efficiency heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The CGAC will be the first recreational building in New Brunswick to implement up-to-date solar technology for heating, water heating, and lighting, and the city is planning to use the building as a showcase that can inspire other municipalities, business communities, developers, and the public to develop and use renewable energy technologies. Given that the CGAC hosts many major aquatic events, a learning kiosk will be created to reach a wide audience.
