Description

Wastewater treatment lagoons in the Township of Alfred–Plantagenet are at full capacity. Last May, the townshipcompleted a pilot project that involved constructing a wetland and using phosphorous absorption technologies to treatwastewater, instead of building new lagoons. This method of treating wastewater will reduce phosphorus, nitrates, ammonia, suspended solids and biochemical oxygen demand. Before the Ontario Ministry of the Environment willaccept this technology as a treatment system, it must be monitored for a minimum of three years.
