Description
The population of the Town of Collingwood is expected to double within the next five years. To address this growth, the Town is developing a Sustainable Community Plan. The Town has identified its sustainability objectives and to further develop the Plan will move forward with activities that include using MetroQUEST software, a computer scenario-based modeling tool that aids sustainable community planning and incorporates long-term, life-cycle analysis. Baseline data will be collected for land use, housing counts, water quality and capacity, air quality, pollutants, and various policies and procedures. Future growth scenarios will be created and evaluated and a preferred community development scenario will be finalized. Indicators and targets for monitoring short- and long-term actions will be developed. The final Plan will include economic, environmental, social and cultural action sub-plans. Implementation is expected to achieve environmental improvements in corporate and community greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water and wastewater quality, solid waste, natural heritage and land use.
