Description
The City of Toronto wants to introduce smart cards to increase the use of all municipal transit options, thus reducing cardependence, as well as smog and greenhouse gas emissions. The goal of the project is to support the implementationof smart cards in the Greater Toronto Area and complement the activities of GO Transit and other transit agenciesinvestigating fare systems based on this technology. The proposed solution—Integrated Mobility Systems—is aninnovative system for improving marketing and integrating various transportation choices. It uses smart cards to accessand link a wide range of urban and inter–city transportation modes and other urban services. The use of smart cardscould also increase accessibility and convenience for travelers, and help strengthen regional economies.
