Description

The City of Coquitlam is updating the corporate and community inventories of Milestone 1, and completing corporate Milestones 2 and 3 of the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. This will move the City through Milestones 1, 2 and 3 by the end of 2006 in preparation for Milestones 4 and 5 by 2007. The City is interested in best practices and innovative strategies to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with the objective of reducing corporate GHG emissions by 20 percent. An emission reduction plan will cover all energy sources, as well as all City services. By conducting a preliminary energy audit and reviewing past energy audits, the City can evaluate improvement opportunities, and analyze the cost and GHG savings over the life of its assets. The resulting local action plan (LAP) will outline strategies to meet reduction targets, along with an implementation process. The LAP for corporate (municipal) operations will address land use planning, procurement, building retrofits, solid waste management, and water conservation, etc. The LAP will also summarize initiatives that the City has undertaken in the past and suggest timelines for future projects. An estimated corporate GHG reduction of 2,000 tonnes/year of carbon dioxide equivalents could be realized as a result of LAP implementation.
