Description
The existing waste disposal facility serving the Village of Ile à La Crosse has reached capacity. Transporting waste outof the community is not viable. This study will explore the development of a new landfill with innovative leachatemanagement features in tandem with implementing a waste reduction and diversion program. The new landfill will use aseries of natural peat bogs to filtrate storm water and leachate. Recycled rubber tire chips will be tested for theireffectiveness as a sub–drain material. The study will also explore community–based waste reduction options including acontainer refund depot, organic waste separation, recycling of waste oil, and exchanges of re–usable commodities.
