Description

This study will address the need to provide a septage treatment facility that improves the nitrification process of theLakefield Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) by up to 70 per cent, making it much more energy and cost efficient. The innovative Bio Bloc system of high surface area substrates inserted in the lagoon to effect ammonia removal andthe construction of a septage receiving facility will be examined to develop a septage management system that preparesthe community for future residential growth. Replication potential is very high for the nitrification process. In addition, by reducing shock loads to the biological system, the proposed septic management system will help the municipality dealwith the new Nutrient Management regulations of the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.
