Description

The City of Guelph will undertake a community energy planning process that will include meeting the first three Milestones of FCM’s Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. The process will result in a community energy plan (CEP) that includes a long-term strategy for prioritizing energy considerations in community planning and development and a five-year local action plan (LAP) to increase clean energy usage. The CEP process will guide the City on how best to meet or exceed PCP objectives of a 20 per cent corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction and a six per cent community GHG emission reduction, compared to a 1994 baseline, by 2010. The planning study will engage a wide range of community and other stakeholders including energy suppliers, distributors, consumers, planners, educators and others whose activities influence the needs, perceptions and behaviours of both energy supply and demand. The goal is to agree on and articulate a vision of the community’s energy future, to document the community’s baseline energy state and social assets, and to begin to identify, prioritize and initiate specific projects and programs that will move the community forward.
