Description

The city's project would identify the technological options available to reclaim and utilize bio–gas (methane and carbondioxide) from the landfill site. Reclaiming bio–gas created by burying municipal waste would make it possible to producegreen energy. That green energy could replace energy produced from fossil fuels or hydro–electric dams. Quebec istabling new regulations about waste material that will require private and public owners of landfill sites to investsignificant sums of money to capture and eliminate the bio–gas that their buried waste produces. If this studydemonstrates the feasibility of particular technologies, they could be adopted at sanitary landfill sites across Quebec, aswell as across Canada.
