Description
The City of Corner Brook will reduce water consumption and water losses by moving towards universal metering. It will install full commercial/industrial water metering and initiate a residential water metering pilot project. Full industrial/commercial metering is expected to decrease water consumption by 10 percent and full residential metering will decrease consumption by 25 percent. The City could realize water loss decreases up to 7,000 cubic meters per day. The most prevalent water-related public health issue in the City in the distribution mains is lack of disinfection in the extremities of the system. The City will address this problem by “looping” the dead ends of its water system and installing automatic flushing devices to ensure disinfection in the water system. With these measures, chlorine residual throughout the system and boil order occurrences will be reduced.
