Description

The City of Brockville will carry out a Brownfield Program Strategy and Community Improvement Plan (CIP). The goal of the CIP is to create a framework within the Official Plan to provide municipal involvement and financial incentives to better support brownfield redevelopment. The CIP will be instrumental in the urban regeneration of the waterfront and downtown area. It will provide the framework to establish a brownfield inventory and prioritize the sites based on potential contamination level. As a result of the CIP, individual studies will emerge which will assess the level of contamination and determine the remediation approach. The environmental, economic and social benefits include environmental due diligence for the brownfield sites, reinvestment in existing sites within the urban area, use of existing municipal infrastructure, and creation of a more liveable, attractive and better utilized central core and waterfront for residents. It is anticipated that the CIP will lead to at least 21 potential development sites being remediated and redeveloped over the long term.
