Description

The Municipality of Iqaluit has designated a part of an area called The Plateau for the development of a sustainablearctic subdivision in 2005. In this feasibility study, existing best practices will be reviewed and community input sought toensure that the subdivision meets the sustainability standards set by the Municipal Council’s Sustainable InitiativesCommittee. The study work plan includes building a business case for the municipality, developers and residents todemonstrate cost and energy savings. Experts and members of the public will be involved in a planning process usingdesign charettes. Various sustainable technologies and community designs will be reviewed in the course of the studyand selected and/or adapted to arctic conditions. Specific recommendations will be outlined in a final report.
