Description

The Village of St. Louis plans to upgrade its sewage collection and treatment system to comply with regulatory standards, improve water quality and support the community’s growth and sustainability. The project team will design, construct and install a sewage treatment lagoon (including an access road), install new pipes (force mains) to carry wastewater downstream from the discharge point, and build two sewage pumping stations. The project has four phases: funding application and approvals, land purchase agreements and title transfers; geotechnical investigations, site preparation and system design; tendering of construction contracts and applying for regulatory approvals; and construction and installation of the sewage treatment and collection system, including lagoon and liner (if necessary), forece mains and sewage pumping stations. The new sewage treatment system will improve the quality of the wastewater flowing back into the environment by 67 to 77 per cent, an outcome that has a positive impact on the environment and human health. Lagoons are energy-efficient and cost-efficient because they treat sewage using natural processes and require no mechanical processes. The new system will be able to support long-term growth and residential development. This will ultimately increase the tax base and strengthen the vitality of the community.
