Description
The Town of Ste. Anne will investigate the best options for upgrading its sanitary sewer collection and treatment system to prevent both pollution and the risk of sewage and stormwater backup in buildings. The current infrastructure is 40 years old and beyond capacity, which has led to several occasions in which raw sewage was discharged into the environment to prevent backup and flooding of homes. The study will focus primarily on improving the condition and capacity of the main sewer trunk and lift station. The project team will assess the condition of the existing plant and determine necessary repairs and upgrades. Closed circuit television cameras will be used to inspect sewer lines and manholes for structural condition. The team will also conduct a six-week flow monitoring program to assess pump performance, infiltration, flow components and rainwater. A computer model of the town’s sewage system will assist the team in prioritizing the upgrades required to deal with population growth and system expansion over the next 20 years. The upgrades will ensure that the town’s wastewater exceeds provincial regulations and that infrastructure has the capacity to prevent future raw sewage discharges. Water conservation initiatives will also help reduce energy costs associated with pumps and treatment equipment.
