Description

The grant-funded staff person will implement initiatives that will produce a lasting improvement in municipal GHG emissions reduction. The first required phase of work is to develop or refresh a GHG emissions reduction plan. The plan will establish a baseline GHG emissions inventory, set emissions reduction targets, and outline actions to reduce GHG emissions for municipal operations and the community in all areas of municipal activity, including energy use, transportation planning, land use, waste and water management. The second required phase of work for the grant-funded staff person is to implement operational and institutional changes that will help ensure long-term GHG emissions reduction afterthe grant period.The third phase of work will be to carry out the preparatory work to be able to implement climate mitigation projects and the grant-funded staff person is required to move activities from the planning stage to the implementation stage over the course of the grant period.In Year 1, the Recipient plans toMeet with Environmental Policy Advisory Committee (EPAC), to establish priorities and goalsReview and coordinate current policy, declaration and inventory researchOrganize stakeholder consultationCreate a vision for the planning processCreate a GHG community inventoryIdentify opportunities for operational and institutional changes that will lead to savingsDevelop a local action plan, and measurement and monitoring protocolsObtain council approval for the planMeet with the County of Brant and Six Nations of the Grand River to develop regional prioritiesLead public engagement and education programsDevelop technical plans or specifications for implementationDevelop operational and institutional changesIn Year 2, the Recipient intends toDraft a green infrastructure strategy for council's considerationDevelop the Green Brantford InitiativeReview development policies and design in accordance with draftConduct current assessment and gap analysis based on Draft Green InfrastructureStrategy and highlight anticipated impact and changesConduct gap analysisDraft implementation strategy including identification of additional resourcesImplementation of GHG reduction initiatives that will lead to operational savingsEstablish process to review
