Description
The City of Ottawa’s Fleet Emissions Reduction Strategy, an integral part of the Ottawa 20/20 Growth Management Plan, has identified 2007 as the target date to begin hybrid acquisition. The objective of this Phase 1 feasibility study is to identify the most cost effective diesel-electric hybrid technology that best meets the operational and support needs of Ottawa’s transit services. Its scope includes demonstration of available hybrid bus designs and operational trials; analysis of costs (capital, operating and life cycle) and performance results; recommendation of the hybrid configuration for subsequent acquisition; identification (and costing) of the major infrastructure changes required; and, public and other levels of government consultations/notifications. The technology needs to demonstrate qualities of longevity and durability in the Canadian environment and the potential for evolution towards a zero-emissions system.
