Description

The Regional Municipality of Halton will test the viability of collecting and utilizing the methane gas found at its small tomedium–sized landfill sites. The study will examine if the collected gas has the potential to be used as industrial fuel fornearby offsite industries, or as a fuel source to operate generators for the production of electricity, thereby reducing theuse of fossil fuels. Tests will be conducted at two regional landfills, an open site in the Town of Milton, and a closed sitein the City of Burlington. Field tests will be conducted to determine potential gas generation and quality before the designand construction of a landfill gas collection and flaring system. The information from the field tests will be used todevelop recommendations for the future permanent system design, installation and operation.
