Description

The municipality of Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc wishes to complete a community plan for sustainable development in order to implement the sustainable development policy of the MRC of Maskinongé at the local level. The themes covered by the plan will include biodiversity, water and soil quality, natural resources management, land use, transport, waste, energy, economic development and tourism. The region is known for its landscapes, forests, large lakes and its fauna and flora. Wishing to establish a balance between the preservation of its natural resources and the development of tourism, the municipality has decided to adopt a Sustainable Development Plan. Thus, after forming a Sustainability Committee and compiling an inventory giving it a "diagnostic" of its territory, Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc will develop a strategic development vision reflecting its needs and those of its population, based on citizen consultation. On these solid foundations, the municipality will set realistic goals and implement concrete actions in the short, medium and long term. These actions will be monitored and evaluated using indicators adapted to each type of chosen initiative. The approach of Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc is distinguished by its emphasis on consultation. Thus, all citizens will be asked to express themselves on the future of their community. Subsequently, the municipality will form a monitoring committee whose role will be to assess the implementation of the action plan. The committee will perform several reviews to monitor the actions undertaken. The Sustainable Development Plan and reviews will be widely distributed and available for consultation by any municipality wishing to undertake a similar project in order to provide an idea of the feasibility of certain projects, obstacles encountered and solutions applied.
