Description

The study will investigate the feasibility of using windrow composting to manage the disposal of organic material inManitoba. These windrows are large piles or rows of organic material that must be turned frequently to aerate them. Thecity, the province and Manitoba Hydro are all involved in this project, which will assess the effects of composting ninewindrows composed of bio–solids and wood waste. The study will gather information on the process, including the odourit generates and the feasibility of carrying on through a Manitoba winter. If windrow composting is successful here, itcould be operated successfully in many Canadian cities.
