Description
The Town of Olds is partnering with Olds College and the Alberta Research Council (ARC) on this field test study which focuses on anaerobic digestion of various organic wastes, alone and in combination, to produce methane gas, and its potential conversion to heat and power. The objectives are: to establish a strong baseline for making the best decision towards the selection of high quality and readily available feedstock for biogas production and its potential conversion to heat and power; to develop a pilot plant bio-digester systems for training, education, and communication; and to construct small-scale pilot digesters, one for rural community use, and another using the advanced technology of the Integrated Manure Utilization System (IMUS), developed by ARC. Results of the trial will form the basis for further study and a business plan toward the implementation of a large-scale anaerobic digester and cogeneration unit in the Town of Olds, in conjunction with its wastewater treatment plant.
