Description

One hundred and forty-seven municipal facilities in 16 rural Manitoban municipalities are included in this multiplemunicipal partner study coordinated by the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM). New building components, including lighting and controls, geothermal systems, solar hot water, high efficiency boilers, solar walls, photovoltaiccells, efficient lighting, heat recovery systems, energy efficient windows, and many other options will be considered forthe facilities. Considering that basic energy efficiency work has not taken place in most of the 147 facilities, there issignificant potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Deliverables include: a detailed feasibility study includingcurrent energy consumption data, specific technical and operational recommendations, and financing andimplementation options for each municipality; a summary report; and the creation of an energy consumption database tocompare energy trends between communities and facilities. This multiple municipal approach will enable smallcommunities lacking in-house expertise to achieve energy efficiency targets.
