Description

In 1993, the City of Merritt implemented a water conservation program to reduce excess water demand. As a result, perperson water use decreased 26 per cent. The city is planning further action to achieve water conservation and continueto provide quality water by implementing a uni-directional flushing program. To implement the system, the city's watersystem computer model must be enhanced, which will require mapping of the water system infrastructure usinggeographic information systems. The feasibility study will support these requirements. The data will ensure that ongoingsystem functions are recorded and appropriate preventative maintenance is planned and executed. The study willprovide a fully documented uni-directional flushing program, which can easily be extended to new areas as developmentoccurs.
