Description

This study will evaluate methods and techniques to improve sewage effluent quality from the Town's wastewatertreatment system. The primary focus of the study is to investigate cost–effective, natural treatment methods such aswetlands and percolation systems that could be utilized as a post–polishing step prior to release. The potential systemwill be designed to provide tertiary treatment and reduce contaminates and suspended solids. Additionally, the wetlandsystem will serve as an "ecological observatory" and public education resource. Future increases in the community'spopulation and sewage flows will be considered as well as the evaluation of wetland system alternatives. The long–termgoal is to apply the wetland technology to other wastewater discharge sources in order to improve overall water quality.
