Description
The City of Fort Saskatchewan plans to develop a municipal sustainability plan using the Natural Step approach. The plan will provide a policy framework and implementation strategy to guide the growth, development and operation of the City. The framework will strive for a sustainable, long-term balance among economic, environmental and social factors, infrastructure and governance. The project team will develop a comprehensive public participation strategy and analyze existing studies and baseline data. The team will conduct an economic growth impact study to identify future land use demands. Through a community visioning process, the team will foster awareness of sustainability issues and clarify a community vision and key guiding principles. Next, the project team will analyze future growth scenarios and, through public consultation, identify the preferred growth strategy. Finally, the team will prepare the municipal sustainability plan and municipal development plan, based on the community’s preferred growth strategy and taking into consideration the “triple bottom line” (economic, social and environmental outcomes).
