Description
As a member of Partners for Climate Protection (PCP), Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) has committed to reduce itscarbon dioxide emissions and is working towards becoming a sustainable community. To facilitate this shift in planningdirection, it has restructured its organization and created an Environmental Management Services Department (EMS),which will serve as the corporate lead in building a Sustainable Community Corporate Environmental Management Plan.This study is an important step in HRM’s sustainability planning. In the study, HRM will update and complete itsgreenhouse gas (GHG) inventory (PCP Milestone One) in order to create reduction targets (PCP Milestone Two).Strategic sustainability training will be given to its new EMS Department by TNS Canada to help it develop a holisticapproach to sustainable development. TNS Canada will also work with the EMS Department to prepare strategies tocomplete PCP Milestones Three to Five, including the development of an integrated approach to the collection ofaccurate baseline data for the creation of a GHG reduction Action Plan.
