Description

This study will assess the technical, environmental and economic viability of establishing a central transfer station as partof a system to process the county's residential wet waste at Canada Composting Inc.'s waste composting facility inNewmarket. The county has already undertaken a pilot project to test collection and composting, but the study willquantify the capital costs involved in establishing the transfer station, in temporarily closing landfills and in hauling thewet waste. If the project is successful, it will complete the county's wet/dry waste diversion program. In total, the countywould be able to divert 74 per cent of its residential waste from landfill. The study will include public input as part of theproject.
