Description
This project will replace over 1,000 existing high–pressure sodium street lights in the City of Bécancour with newlydeveloped induction lamps. This will cut maintenance costs and waste, as well as reduce electrical consumption forstreet lighting by more than 35 per cent. The project will also result in safer lighting with truer colours than theyellowish–brown lighting of the current system. The new system promises 100,000 hours of service, compared with24,000 hours for the high–pressure sodium lights. This will make it possible for the city to reduce the number of lampsand ballasts required. The project will help to implement a newly developed energy–efficient technology in Canada thatcan be adopted by other municipalities and exported. Future projects will likely be more financially viable as the cost oflamp/adaptor systems declines.
