Description
Beckwith Township is a dynamic and prosperous community that is the gateway to Lanark County from the National Capital Area. Steeped in tradition and rich in history, Beckwith residents live, work and play in harmony with the natural environment that is comprised of open space, forests, lakes, rivers, parks and trails.
As one of the fastest growing municipalities within Eastern Ontario, the Council of Beckwith Township recognize that the current municipal building no longer meets the needs of the Township. Built in 1962, the existing infrastructure is no longer a viable option for the municipal office to consider renovating.
With the decision to erect a new building, the Township now has the opportunity to create a space that is reflective and respectful of its natural surroundings by creating a sustainable environment that will have a positive impact for both occupants and the community at large.
It is the Township’s hope that the construction of their new facility will serve as an example for all moving forward as they opt for an environment that will be energy efficient and low in maintenance and operation costs. The design of this new net zero energy facility favours low carbon energy by relying on electricity - derived from rooftop PV and the grid - for all energy use on side, avoiding carbon intensive fossil fuel combustion by opting out of natural gas typically used for heating.
As good stewards of taxpayer’s funds, the Council of Beckwith Township is eager to benefit from the economic savings that an energy efficient building will provide; they are just as eager to be able to provide an environment that is beneficial to its occupants and users’ health. With features that include natural light and better air quality, spaces become more enjoyable, employee productivity is elevated, and residents are excited to use a space that they know is safe for them, their families, and the environment.
By maximizing social and economic outcomes through better infrastructure planning and investment, Beckwith Township will be able to achieve its goal of creating a space that will maintain and respect its natural environment and fosters greater value for its community.
