Description
Barrie Municipal Non-Profit Housing Corporation (BMNPHC) has a portfolio of 14 sites consisting of townhouse developments and apartment buildings with 954 units in all. Most of the buildings have outdated mechanical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and outdated water fixtures. This study involves conducting detailed energy audits that will include a description of the existing conditions, a list of proposed energy efficiency measures, and a summary of the benefits that would result from changes. The information from the audits will be used to identify potential retrofits, technologies, and envelope improvements as well as determine the technical and economic feasibility of upgrades. The information collected will be shared with Barrie Hydro to help develop energy demand management programs for the non-profit housing sector. The estimated consumption reductions include an electricity reduction of 560,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) (20 per cent) per year; natural gas reduction of 75,000 cubic metres (m3¬¬¬) (10 per cent) per year; greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction of 320 tonnes (14 per cent) per year in the form of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e); and water reduction of 10,700 m3 (10 per cent) per year. These reductions will result in an estimated $94,000 in energy and water savings per year.
