Description

To create a more sustainable community, the City of Dawson Creek will complete Milestones 1, 2, and 3 of FCM’s Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. In Milestone 1, it will build on an existing municipal baseline and create a comprehensive inventory and forecast of energy use, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and associated financial costs for residential and institutional, commercial, and industrial (ICI) sectors. In Milestone 2, it will set five and 10-year energy and GHG emission reduction targets for municipal operations, as well as residential and ICI sectors (based on the baseline established in Milestone 1). In Milestone 3, it will develop a local action plan (LAP) to reduce GHG emissions. Public consultation with key stakeholders and the broader public is an important project component to ensure support for the LAP at the community level. Environmental benefits from implementation of the LAP are expected to yield a reduction in GHG emissions of 500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) at the municipal level and 5,800 tonnes of CO2e at the community level.
