Description

The Borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville in Montreal will adopt a 20-year strategic plan (2007-2027) allowing it to manage all its activities and services according to the principles of sustainable development. Two planning teams, one in-house and one from outside (composed of 25 partners) will be responsible for the project and a citizens’ forum will serve as a public platform for the borough’s population. The Sustainable Development Bureau established in January 2008 (the first for the City of Montreal) will see to the plan’s implementation. It will work with the help of partners and consultants on the following: Analyze the current situation, determine the main issues, establish an action plan with short, medium and long-term objectives, establish clear and measurable indicators for the results achieved, implement the plan, draw up reports, hold a public consultation and approve the overall plan. Measures planned will focus on air and soil quality, energy efficiency, transportation and management of residual material, taking into account the policies and master plans of the Borough’s partners, including the City of Montreal.
Implementation of the plan should ensure that all measures undertaken correspond to a clearly established common vision in order to guarantee and improve the quality of life of all residents of the Borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville.
