Description
From June 2017 to July 2018, the Region of Peel (“The Region”) will develop a Corporate Climate Change Master Plan (“The Plan”) to guide mitigation actions over the next 10 years.Building off the Region’s corporate completion of Milestones 1 and 2 of the Partners for Climate Protection framework, the Plan will be the underlying initiative to progress towards completion of Milestone 3, incorporating input from all Regional Departments to identify the actions, strategies and resources needed to successfully achieve the Region’s greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions reduction targets. Objectives of the Plan are outlined below: 1. Provide recommendations to get corporate GHG emissions on track for an 80% reduction by 2050 2. Build capacity for risks associated with climate change to be embedded into corporate decision making 3. Develop a high-level implementation plan including resources required, timelines, and estimated GHG reductionsThese objectives encapsulate the Region's triple bottom line approach to developing a successful Master Plan. ENVIRONMENTAL: Reducing GHG emissionsECONOMIC: Outlining the required budget, and business cases where applicable, to achieve GHG reduction targets and build long-term resilience in infrastructure and operationsSOCIAL: Engaging, gathering input, and securing buy-in across all levels of staff; integrating climate change considerations into all levels of planning and projects
