Description

The City of Barrie will develop a Climate Change Adaptation Implementation Plan following ICLEI-Canada’s Building Adaptive and Resilient Communities (BARC) Five Milestone Framework. The plan will outline Action Specific Action Plans (ASAPs) for each of the fifty-nine priority actions which will detail how the city is going to achieve the actions outlined in their recently completed Climate Adaptation Strategy including identifying the City department/branch responsible for implementation, community partners, timing of implementation, costs, and determining how we will report back on the implementation of the adaptation plan. In order to ensure that the actions outlined in the strategy are implemented in line with the vision for the City of Barrie, the implementation plan will be developed following a series of guiding principles (e.g. Enhancing mitigation efforts). The planning team for the Implementation Plan consists of three groups; the Project Team, which includes the City’s project manager and the Consulting Team; The Adaptation Team, which includes 16 City staff members from across various departments that were identified as having relevant expertise or a role in implementing priority actions for climate change adaptation; and the Stakeholder Advisory Group, which includes members with a broad range of perspectives and expertise from the Barrie community.
